Validity Of MRP (Machine Readable Passport)

A Machine Readable Passport (MRP) Is Issued By The Directorate General Of Immigration & Passports, And Is Valid For Either Five, Or Ten Years, Depending On Fee Deposit.

Passport Validity Cannot Be Increased, I.E., Passports With 5-Year Validity Cannot Be Converted Into One With 10-Year Validity.

Children Aged 15 And Below Are Issued Passports With 5-Year Validity.

Machine Readable Passport Process.

The Applicant Is Liable To Go Through The Below-Mentioned Stages At The Regional Passport Office (RPO) For Obtaining The Machine Readable Passport Once The Requisite Passport Fee Is Submitted:

NOTE: An Original Bank Challan Receipt Must Be Obtained From The Relevant National Bank Branches (By Depositing The Requisite Amount As Passport Fee) Prior To Coming To The Regional Passport Office.

1. Process Flow In Pakistan & Foreign Missions Abroad
2. Arrival of the Applicant at Customer Service Counter.
3. Token Counter + Photograph Capturing.
4. Biometric Data Capturing. i.e. Finger Print
5. Data Entry.
6. Verification as per Office Record.
7. Interview and Decision by Assistant Director.
8. Passport Delivery Counter.

Documents Required For Machine Readable Passport:

Normal/Urgent 18 Years And Above.

1. Original Bank Challan receipt with relevant fee deposit.
2. Applicant’s original Computerized National Identity Cad (CNIC) by NADRA
3. 2 copies of applicant’s CNIC
4. Applicant’s old passport, along with a copy (if issued)
5. NOC (in case of a government official)
6. Foreign passport, original and a photocopy (applicable for dual-nationality holders only)

Normal/Urgent Under 18 Years.

1. Original Bank Challan receipt with relevant fee deposit.
2. Applicant’s original Computerized Registration Certificate (CRC) by NADRA
3. 2 copies of applicant’s CRC
4. Computerized National Identity Card of applicant’s parents, original and a photocopy
5. Foreign passport, original and a photocopy (applicable for dual-nationality holders only)

Passport Categories:

There Are Two Categories Of Machine Readable Passport, Distinct Solely On The Basis Of Application Type/Procedure Of Passport Acquisition:

• Normal
• Urgent

The Existing Manual System Of Passport Is Now Replaced By The Machine Readable Passports, The Procession And Availability Of Which Requires A Set Period Of Time
NOTE: Passports Are Dispatched For Delivery To The Applicant’s From The Headquarters Within The Prescribed Procession Period. They Can Be Tracked Via SMS And Online Passport Tracking System. However, Additional Shipment Time May Be Required For The Dispatches To Reach Their Respective Regional Passport Offices Or Foreign Mission.

Passport Renewal

The Passport & Visa Manual 2006 Places No Restrictions On Passport Renewal Prior To Passport Expiry. Applicants Can Be Issued Passports With Complete Validity Of 5 Or 10 Years Despite Existing Unexpired Passports. However, Applicant Is Required To Submit A Statement Briefing The Reason For Acquiring A New Passport In Such Instances. The Applicant Will Be Returned The Existing Passport After Its Due Cancellation And Completion Of Further Formalities.
